Isabella and the Pot of Basil
John White Alexander,  1897
Just a wonderfully tragic story of a woman who pines away with grief for her murdered lover as she tends to the pot of basil in which she has planted his exhumed head. This story is taken from Boccaccio’s ‘Decameron’ and John Keats’ adaption of it. Everyone needs a bit of Pre-Raphaelite tragic romance in their day.
